So I am on BC pills and according to the pills schedule I was supposed to start my period 2 days ago.  I know there is alot of info out there about pills not being asorbed.  So I am alittle worried.  We want to get pregnant but if I am still taking the pills could it hurt the baby??  Should i stop taking the pills if I could be pregnant?

Go buy a pregnancy test to find out!  The pills shouldn't hurt the baby this early on but I would test ASAP because you obvioulsy don't want to continue taking them if you are pregnant!  Please keep us updated!

Agreed.  Go buy a home pregnancy test today.  BC Pills are not effective with RNY patients since we have the malabsorbtion issues.  Most women don't realize that and their doctors don't make the connection.  IUD is a better form of BC with RNY.

ok, so not to sound stupid, but wouldn't it be too early to tell if I was pregnant?  Also wouldn't being on the pill make it show positive.  Yes that does sound stupid but I have not been through all of this before!!  Thanks for the input!

BC pills don't affect pregnancy tests. Pregnancy tests check for a hormone that's abbreviated HCG. BC pills are usually made from progesterone. These are two different hormones altogether.

It may be a bit early but this is usually the time that a lot of women start getting positives if they are pregnant. Two weeks after you ovulate (if you do become pregnant) you usually start producing enough HCG to check it on a pg test. Since you wouldn't know the exact date you ovulated (and its possible you didn't) then it may be sooner or later.

I bought all my tests from the dollar store. Different tests check different amounts of HCG..some are 25, but others go all the way up to 75. Check the box the be sure you're getting a 25. The longer you're pregnant the greater amount of HCG that will be secreted into your urine. A $1 test that checks at 25 is as good as a $15 test that checks the same.

If you get a negative and you don't get your period in a few days or so I would get a blood test to double check. If you're not pregnant and you don't want to become pregnant in the near future you may want to consider an alternative BC method. I know lots of women who have RNY/BC pill babies!

I got pregnant on BC pills.  I was about to start my next pack and still hadn't gotten my period so I tested and found out I was pregnant.  If you are pregnant, the baby will be fine even with taking the pills but you wouldn't want to keep taking them.  I would go out and buy a couple of tests and take one first thing in the morning and if it's negative, wait a few days and test again.  If you still are getting negatives and haven't started your period, I would go to the doctor for a blood test.

Good luck to you!!

Also wanted to note that the pills you take while on your period normally do not have hormones in them. They are filler pills to keep you on track but I would check with your BC packaging.
